I was born and raised in the Philippines and migrated to the U.S. in 1994. I have pretty much stayed in Southern California all this time, and I love it! I have been married to a wonderful man for almost 10 years, and have two precious princesses, one is 4 and one is 1 year old. I have been a Registered Nurse for 15 years. I finished my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in Manila in 1993 at the age of 19. A few years after migrating to America, I went back to school and received my Master's Degree in Nursing Administration from California State Dominguez Hills in 2000. My first RN job straight out of nursing school was in a very underserved hospital in the Philippines. I worked there for almost a year before coming to the U.S. A couple of weeks after coming to California, I got a job as a Nursing Assistant in a nursing home in Torrance, CA. I worked there for a year while reviewing for my NCLEX. After obtaining my RN license, I worked as an RN supervisor in a couple of nursing homes for a year, and then shifted to home care. I stayed in home care for 7 years, 2 of which was as Director of Patient Care Services. I also taught home health aide courses at a local community college for about a year while still working in home care. After that, I went back to acute care as charge nurse of an Endoscopy Suite at a local county hospital here in Los Angeles County, where I still work part time. I currently work part-time as a Nursing Instructor at a local community college, and full time as an Assistant Program Director at a private vocational school. I also own a continuing education company, called EC CPR. Aside from nursing, I also love technology, and I could not find a better way of combining the two than Nursing Informatics. Although I have never held the title of "Nurse Informaticist", I have found a way of getting into this arena by joining the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA), where I served as newsletter editor and board committee member for a couple of years. I am currently still a member of ANIA, although I am not as active anymore as I was a few years ago. I am also a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Currently, I am managing a few websites as a Webmaster, one of them is this one, another one is for a business, Trinity Vocational Center, and also for my business, EC CPR. I am a strong advocate of technology, especially its use in instructional diversity both in the traditional classroom and online. I believe that my passion for computers, combined with my love for teaching, has led me to University of Phoenix Online, where I taught about The Impact of E-health to graduate level students, and Introduction to HealthCare Information Systems to undergraduate students in the in the Nursing and Health Administration program. You can also read my nursing profile at www.discovernursing.com, which is a website by Johnson & Johnson, Inc. To keep my life balanced, I also served in my church, Lord of Harvest, as a Worship Team vocalist. I used to be a very active church member, but since the birth of my princesses, I had to rearrange my priorities. I am hoping to go back to serving once my schedule is a bit more manageable. My life pretty much revolves around all these things that I like to do. Another thing that my family and I like to do is to go on vacation! I am also a Certified Notary -visit the Notary Services link for details.
Eliza
B. Rivera-Mitu, or Jing, as her friends and family call her, was
involved in Lord of Harvest Church's Worship Team (LoHWT)
as a vocalist. LOH Worship has become her ministry in
serving the Lord, and she is grateful that God has given her the talents to be
able to be His servant, and a minister of His faith.
